What are the new sources of information in Guinea?
A total of 226 students participated in a study to share their views on access to information and the use of media in Guinea. These students are predominantly young, with an average age of 21 for women and 23 for men.
Participants come from diverse academic backgrounds, including social sciences, biochemistry, technical sciences, administrative sciences, and legal studies.
The Impact of Climate Change on Guinea: Insights from Locals
nearly two-thirds (64%) of participants are aware of climate change (Figure 1).
Among those knowledgeable about the issue:
A significant 89% believe that climate change negatively affects quality of life
(Figure 2).
Gender-Based Violence in Guinea: A Closer Look
Gender-based violence remains a significant barrier to gender equality in Guinea, according to a recent Afrobarometer survey. The data reveals alarming attitudes: a majority believe domestic violence should be handled privately, and that men are justified in beating their wives.
Key findings indicate that:
Three-quarters (76%) of Guineans consider domestic violence a private matter to be resolved within the family, not a criminal issue.
Two-thirds (67%) of Guineans believe it is justified for a man to beat his wife.
Guinea’s Electricity Woes – Most Citizens Dissatisfied with Government’s Response
A 2020 Afrobarometer survey reveals a grim picture of Guinea’s electricity supply. Only 2 in 10 Guineans have access to a reliable electricity source, and most citizens are unhappy with the government’s efforts to improve the situation.
The key findings paint a stark urban-rural divide:
Only 33% of households are connected to the national grid, with a massive gap between cities (65%) and rural areas (3%).
Perception survey on reforms in the sectors of Justice, Defense Forces and Security by the Guinean populations
The survey was conducted by Stat View International using both quantitative (individual questionnaire interviews) and qualitative (in-depth interviews and focus groups) methods. The quantitative portion surveyed 1,044 respondents selected through random sampling to represent the adult population aged 18+ with a 5% margin of error. The qualitative component involved 25 in-depth interviews with reform leaders and civil society including media. 18 focus groups engaged 180 adult men and women, mostly from civil society organizations and associations.
Who do Guineans trust the most ?
According to the results of the most recent Afrobarometer survey, the majority of Guineans express their trust in religious leaders and traditional chiefs.
Nearly half of Guineans express their confidence in the President of the Transition. This confidence is weaker towards the National Transitional Council and towards the opposition political parties.
National Identity Vs Ethnic Identity
According to the results of the most recent Afrobarometer survey, the vast majority of Guineans say they are attached to their national identity rather than their ethnicity.
On the subject of ties and consideration of fellow citizens, most respondents feel strong ties with other Guineans and also say that other Guineans consider them to be Guineans just like themselves.
